In recent years, our attention has shifted towards creating combinations of retaining walls and stair systems. This approach is tailored for homeowners contending with steep slopes who desire access to their lakeshore, riverbank, or other specific areas.
Each stairway we design is customized to suit the homeowner's preferences for rock type and the unique slope of their property. These projects demand thorough planning and consideration. A well-crafted stair and wall system not only enhances accessibility but also stand out among the most breathtaking projects we undertake.
Mississippi River - Champlin, MN
In 1986, this existing property was purchased by the homeowner. At the time, a railroad tie retaining wall was installed to combat erosion near the water. The upper section of the shoreline was unaddressed by this wall, making mowing and river access difficult. By the mid 2000s, the wall began to rot away and the area needed constant maintenance. It was at this point the homeowner began looking for a more permanent solution.
“We watched contractors and workmanship on the river, to see who had the best project success, and decided on ColdStone … he was willing to use gabions as we requested on the lower wall and designed an upper retaining wall that addressed all of our access concerns.
We now have steps that are very safe and access for lawn mowers and equipment to the lower area. The upper wall is a work of art with granite rocks and steps. We have many positive comments on the overall look and functionality of the system and could not be happier.”
